One of the first things I tell people who are trying to achieve a goal, fulfill a dream, build confidence etc is to make sure that you keep your circle around you filled with positive uplifting people. It is vital to stay around people who have an optimistic outlook, who are successful themselves, and who will BELIEVE in the beauty of your dreams. Just the other day as I was perusing the internet I saw an article on the lottery. The guy pretty much bashes anyone for playing and tells them they are fools for spending their money on such a thing. While much of what he said was based on statistical fact and I do agree that you shouldn’t spend an arm and leg on lottery I do NOT think you’re a fool for playing. After all someone wins right? Why can’t that someone be you? I’m not saying to go blow your fortune on trying to win but I do think you can spend a small amount of you’re entertainment money on a dream. There after all IS a chance you can win.
What bothered me the most about that article wasn’t him being staunchly against the lottery it was the manner in which he was quick to kill the dreams of others. Let’s all be honest we know when we play the lottery it’s a long shot at winning the big prize however people play the lottery because it fills them with hope. Hope to realize dreams, travel, and feel free. How many people ask the question “what would you do if you won the lottery?” People visualize what they would do and it brings them a sense of hope and happiness. It’s almost like an instant vacation for your mind.
I can remember countless times throughout my life where I would talk to friends about my dreams and ambitions and half the time they would be disinterested or have negative things to say (I don’t confuse negative with constructive criticism). I look back on those people and I realize I don’t talk to any of them anymore and I’m better for it. For me it was a very natural kind of progression to move away from those who are negative. I naturally am more interested in and attracted to having friends that feel as excited about their dreams as I do mine. Negative people tend to suck the life out of you. I will guarantee that if you were to ask any highly successful person they would tell you they left the Debbie Downers behind and had people who believed in them or motivated them along the way.
Optimism is contagious and when a person believes in your dreams and you believe in theirs that excitement in the air will naturally bring you both better results. Positive people also simply make you feel better right? You don’t get the warm and fuzzies from those who are constantly negative and have bad attitudes. Think about past jobs, most of us at some point have been forced to work with a person or people with negative attitudes. Most of us also have been blessed to have worked with some awesome positive co-workers. Who did you like to be around more? What were your work results when you worked with both positive and negative people? Your dreams are never silly and all dreams can be achieved. Everything at some point was once thought impossible. I encourage you to look closely at your circle and to make sure that you have the best support system for you. You deserve it.
